Well that was an unexpected round. Only iWizard got more than 1 point. Amazing.

2018-06-26
Denmark 1 - 1 France
Australia 2 - 0 Peru
Nigeria 1 - 1 Argentina
Iceland 0 - 3 Croatia

Okay so France are through to the next round already. Denmark will want to win badly, but they haven't been that strong in the previous matches?

Peru haven't scored any goals and hey, why not keep it that way? The aussies were not too bad and they're certainly going to put some effort in this. They might score some goals unless a kangaroo appears!

Nigeria surprised against Iceland but Argentina is a different team... wait, they're crap this year. How? What are you doing Argentina? There's just no positive energy left and Nigeria seem to have fun. Might still a draw though because there's much at stake.

No hope left for Iceland. They're better off mining crypto currencies with their cheap electricity instead of playing football it seems. Poor guys. Croatia is on a roll and hey, isn't this game about balls and rolling and kicking (ass)?

RESULTS 2018-06-26
Denmark 0 - 0 France
Australia 0 - 2 Peru
Nigeria 1 - 2 Argentina
Iceland 1 - 2 Croatia

France had the upper hand during the first half but Denmark reigned the second half. Both incredibly achieved nothing. Just meaningless passing and the crowd got furious. Sad fact is that they both were fine with a bore 0-0. Ah yes, oh boy do the Danes like to dive!

I guess some wild kangaroos appeared and Peru stole that one, isn't that right Duhr?

Argentina just about made it and for a second in a moment of madness I thought they're not that bad, but the way their game broke after the equaliser just reminded why Argentina is useless. Lackluster Argentina's next opponent is lackluster France, and exciting Croatia gets colourless Denmark.

Dave is back leading the pack! I think Mezzmer should maybe ease up on the drink. All these hangovers are ruining your form man!

Tomorrow 2018-06-27
South Korea - Germany
Mexico - Sweden
Serbia - Brazil
Switzerland - Costa Rica

At least both Germany and Sweden want a win rather than a bore draw. On the other hand if Mexico is winning Sweden, then Germany could settle for a draw as well. Mexico would win the group with a draw.

Brazil could aim for a draw here, but basically they do want a win as well. Surely this will be a much better day!

Oh yeh! the rescue for me today don't come much closer than that, 90th minute goal by Croatia!
Argentina, on the other hand, should be playing better than that crap, then again since the 'hand of god' goal by one Diego Maradona that one time, I wish all the worse to them for the future...
Peru and Australia was a hard one to call for me, as TBH they are both wank,
France and Denmark were both once pretty good like Argentina, but now share my same thought.. wank!

It's right!

Another strange round it was, I guess.

2018-06-27
South Korea 1 - 2 Germany
Mexico 1 - 1 Sweden
Serbia 0 - 2 Brazil
Switzerland 2 - 0 Costa Rica

Germany should be able to win in the South Korea - Germany match. But with Germany's current form, South Korea might still score a goal. It'll probably be 1-1 for a very long time. Will the Germans settle for a draw or do as the Germans always do: score in the last minute? Perhaps Croatia learned from them.

What will Mexico do against Sweden, it's a tougher opponent (enemy?) than they've had before. A draw might be reasonable?

Brazil seems to be stronger than Serbia, but can they pull off more than one goal? Likewise, Switzerland should be able to win against Costa Rica but if you want to see hundreds of goals you should go to this factory.

By the way, all the predictions now seem to be max 2 goals... how lame (I mean, realistic) is that!

RESULTS 2018-06-27
South Korea 2 - 0 Germany
Mexico 0 - 3 Sweden
Serbia 0 - 2 Brazil
Switzerland 2 - 2 Costa Rica

How do you explain Sweden winning the group and Germany being the last Duhr? I mean what.

Mexico was pretty clueless against Sweden's defense and it looked almost like they didn't even want to try. Which is the complete opposite of how Brazil went about. They tried long and short balls and it worked varyingly, but that's how it should be. Take a risk boys! I'm just so sick and tired of returning the ball to the goalkeeper.

Sad to see Serbia go because I think they were pretty good as well as entertaining, apart from this match. I'd rate them over both Mexico and Sweden, but then again, these bets don't seem to be going very well either.

Code:
RaverDave 65 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 5 0 0 3 1 = 77 iWizard 63 3 0 1 1 0 0 0 3 0 0 3 0 = 74 Sandman 63 0 0 0 0 0 3 3 1 0 0 3 1 = 74 Mezzmer 56 0 1 = 57 Duhr 42 0 1 0 0 3 0 1 3 0 0 3 1 = 54

Tomorrow 2018-06-28
Japan - Poland
Senegal - Colombia
England - Belgium
Panama - Tunisia

Japan and Senegal have 4 points and Colombia 3. It's and interesting situation.

Both England and Belgium are at 6 points, have the same goal difference and the same amount of goals. If the match ends a draw then the group winner could actually be decided by tossing a coin.

What. I don't. All I can say is:
Germany

In a bit of a hurry today so no previews I'm afraid, but as we witnessed they're useless anyway.

2018-06-28
Japan 3 - 0 Poland
Senegal 1 - 2 Colombia
England 0 - 1 Belgium
Panama 3 - 1 Tunisia

Okay so I most of you are from the UK, but I just have to support Belgium.

For the rest of the games, let's go for slightly more goals than predicted in the previous round. You'll see everything ends up 0 - 0?

I think you're on to something Duhr. It seems like predicting goals isn't a good tactic.

Senegal was leading the group and now they're out - why? It's not like Colombia suddenly started playing well, but because Senegal had decided to sit on its ass and hope for the best. Great tactic but I will miss the hair.

England - Belgium was probably the most anticipated match for me, and surprisingly enough turned out to be a complete utter let down. Both played with their "b-teams" because there wasn't much reason to play properly. Awesome system. Winner got Japan as their first opponent in the knockout stage but otherwise probably a bit harder road.

Code:
RaverDave 65 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 5 0 0 3 1 1 3 0 1 = 82 Sandman 63 0 0 0 0 0 3 3 1 0 0 3 1 1 3 3 1 = 82 iWizard 63 3 0 1 1 0 0 0 3 0 0 3 0 0 1 3 3 = 81 Duhr 42 0 1 0 0 3 0 1 3 0 0 3 1 0 3 5 0 = 62 Mezzmer 56 0 1 0 3 1 0 = 61

Group stage is over and it's mighty mighty tight all over the board! 160 points left! From now on points will be given doubled and in case a match goes extra time, the actual game time score will be used. Extra time or penalty shootout result doesn't matter.

QUARTER-FINALS

2018-06-30
Vive la France - Diego Argentina
U r uguay - Portu Gals

2018-07-01
Spanish Inquisition - Soviet Russia
Croatia (a country) - Great Danes

2018-07-02
Favela - Wetbacks
"Belgium" - Rising Sun

2018-07-03
Tre Kronor - Switcherland
Team Pablo Escobar - Her Majesty's England

After the group stage, albeit playing against varying opponents, here are my ratings:

Expect much, fall from a great height:
England
Belgium

Has potential:
Brazil
Uruguay
Croatia

Above average:
Portugal
Spain (actually, were they kinda rubbish?)
Denmark
Switzerland

Rest are cannon fodder either by default or by form. But anything can happen and I do hope someone surprises.

Knockout stage hmm. Are we talking about football or boxing or me drinking too much?

Saturday 2018-06-30
France 1 - 0 Argentina
Uruguay 1 - 1 Portugal

Who knows whether Argentina keeps getting lucky, but given their previous play they should be eliminated from the tournament. No mercy.

Uruguay is actually a bit better than Portugal? But being in the knockout stage might be overwhelming for them while Portugal has experience with stages/finals like this.

By the way, teams are (now) allowed to make a fourth substitution in extra time. Is nothing sacred any more?

Congrats for iWizard and Sandman predicting a win for Uruguay. I had high hopes for that 1 -1! Sigh.

2018-07-01
Spain 2 - 1 Russia
Croatia 2 - 1 Denmark

Wasn't overly impressed with Spain but they should be able to defeat Russia: a bit on par with Portugal, but those lost from Uruguay... Uruguay scored 3 - 0 against Russia. Famous last words?

Doubting between a 1 - 1 (again) or a 2 - 1 win for Croatia. Let's not make the same mistake as yesterday and actually predict a win for the team that impressed the most.
