Running DivDX on a virtual machine

BreadCaster - 3-5-2019 at 10:30 PM

Hey there yall.

Im looking at doing a new project using mode 8 (yep, another one - i swear, im getting closer to something usable) and to do so I'll have to use a virtual machine on my macbook pro laptop. I really need the portability so I need to stay on my macbook.

Does anyone here know of any virtual machines that will run DivDX okay? Using mode 8 maps etc that is. I dont mind if its a commercial program, i dont mind paying a little bit to get it running on my lappy.

Thanks!

I use DIVDX on Oracle VirtualBOX machine from win7 to win10 and runs ok, but I do not know how to run it on mac.

Vortigano - thanks, have you tried using Mode 8 with it? Like editing a 3D map in it? If so please let me know results! Would love to find out that its just my copy of windows (xp) preventing it from working okay with my system!

you should be able to compile it yourself on a mac (i do)

installing xcode and brew, then sdl, fmake should be enough to get going

Would love to give this a try, but you might as well be speaking french to me Mikey :( I do recall attempting to compile DivDX using Xcode a while back as its still on my macbook, but ran into all sorts of issues (although i have upgraded my OSX since then so it might stand a better chance now - im running Mac High Sierra). To be frank, Id have no real idea where to begin! :S

Thanks a lot Vortigano! :) Does the map editor work without crashing? Like can you make a simple map and run it does it crash?

mmm, the map editor crashes ramdomly in all my divdx builds (sometimes it works fine)..so I think that under the winxp machine the same thing would happen.

yeah, this is what happens when I try to use DixDX's mode 8 map editor on my VirtualBox as well. It doesnt happen on my tower computer but I really need to be able to run DivDX on a lappy if I want any chance at making a serious crack at a game using it. :/ Thanks for your help tho bud!! :)

If you have the time to figure out how it works, you could edit the maps by yourself.
